EHS girls basketball beats Zephs, falls to BC, Hazleton

The Emmaus High School girls basketball team lost two of its three games last week.

The week started with a 50-35 loss to Bethlehem Catholic last Monday night, Jan. 12. The Hornets followed that with a 54-17 victory at Whitehall last Thursday. The next night Emmaus dropped a nonconference game at Hazelton, 77-34.

Becahi led 33-29 heading into the fourth quarter and scored 17 of the first 18 points in the final stanza to pull away.

Olive Whitney tallied a team-best 15 points on five 3-pointers. Gabby DeVita tallied 13 points as the duo combined for 28 of their team’s 35 points.

The Hornets responded against Whitehall, leading 30-8 at halftime. The Emmaus defense allowed just nine second half points, including only two in the final frame.

DeVita paced the offense with 13 points and Sierra Stevens recorded 11 points. Both Whitney and Eva Glover totaled six points. Gabby East and Olivia Haberl netted five points, with Gracie Ervin adding four points.

Hazelton led 32-10 after the first quarter and outscored Emmaus 24-4 in the second half to secure the win. DeVita finished with 12 points. Whitney netted nine points. Ervin contributed five points and East had four. Makayla McGinnis and Ariana Tranguch rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.

Emmaus, which improved to 12-3 overall and 10-1 in the conference, has a busy week of three EPC matchups. The Hornets were at Central Catholic Tuesday, host Allen on Friday and travel to East Stroudsburg South Saturday afternoon.
