EHS boys basketball misses postseason

The Emmaus High School boys basketball entered the final full week of the 2025-26 regular season needing to win a couple of games, but the results it needed did not all go in the Hornets favor, ending the postseason fate.

They started the week on a positive note, defeating Dieruff 66-56 last Wednesday night, but then dropped the next two contests, 60-48 against Parkland Friday night and then 64-56 to Pottstown in a nonconference game Saturday.

In the victory over the Huskies, Emmaus used a strong fourth quarter to earn the win.

The Hornets led 18-13 after the opening quarter, but then found themselves tied after the Huskies outscored them 11-6 in the second quarter.

Emmaus took a two-point lead into the final quarter, but outscored the Huskies 25-17 to win. Matt Rooney finished with a game-high 21 points. Jake Ross tallied 20 points and Ben Grochowski recorded 13 points.

Both Ty Laird and Othello Karto scored four points and Jayden Swan and Kellen Hafner rounded out the scoring with two points.

The Trojans took control of the game with a 21-10 opening quarter and never allowed Emmaus to make a run of come within striking distance the rest of the way.

Rooney led the offense with 11 points. Ross totaled nine points and Newsome added eight. Grochowski netted five points and Swan contributed four.

Heading into the Pottstown game, the Hornets needed to win their final two games to qualify for the playoffs.

Saturday Emmaus held a five-point lead after one quarter and then was up 36-23 at halftime. After three, the Hornets were still leading by eight, but the fourth quarter saw Pottstown outscore Emmaus 25-9.

. Ross tallied a team-best 17 points and Rooney recorded 14. Tyler Leman and Grochowski both scored five points.

Emmaus finished the season with a 9-12 record overall and 6-9 mark in the conference.
