EHS bounces back, beats Whitehall

The Emmaus High School girls basketball team finished the regular season Monday and will prepare for Friday’s East Penn Conference playoffs.

The Hornets began last week with a 72-63 victory at Dieruff last Wednesday. Two nights later, they lost in a rematch with Parkland, 58-51. They shook off the loss and rolled to a 61-14 win over Whitehall in Monday’s season finale.

In the win over the Huskies, the Hornets trailed 30-29 at halftime. In the third quarter they outscored Dieruff 20-16 to go up by three. A 23-17 fourth quarter allowed EHS to finish off the victory. Gabby DeVita led the way

with 24 points. Olive Whitney tallied 19 points and Sierra Stevens recorded 12 points with both players draining four 3-pointers. Eva Glover netted 11 points to round out a quartet in double figures. Olivia Haberl, Gracie Ervin and Sophia Shutkufski had two points.

Against the Trojans, it was back-and-forth throughout as Emmaus led 19-18 after the opening quarter, but Parkland responded to take a 31-26 advantage at halftime. The Hornets then outscored the Trojans 19-11 in the third to head to the final frame ahead 45-42

The Trojans once again bounced back and used a 16-6 spurt in the fourth quarter to take the victory. DeVita ended with a game-high 19 points with three 3-pointers. Both Whitney and Stevens totaled 10 points. Glover contributed nine points and Ervin rounded out the scoring with three points.

DeVita led the way against Whitehall with 13 points. Glover had 11 points as 11 Hornets scored at least one point in the win.

Emmaus finished the regular season 17-5 overall and 14-2 in the conference.

The Hornets earned the No. 3 seed for the league playoffs and will host Central Catholic Friday at 6 p.m. Semifinals are slated for Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the PPL Center with the league title games on Thursday, Feb. 12.

If Emmaus advances to semifinals it will face either No. 2 Bethlehem Catholic or No. 7 Pocono Mountain West.
