Valentine’s Day is in the rearview mirror and daylight saving time is within our sights. Dare we defy Punxsutawney Phil’s prognostication and think thoughts of spring? As a glass half-full kind of person, I do believe it can’t hurt to think positively and dream of green grass, warm breezes and crocuses peeking out of the ground.
Starting with school district news, Feb. 20 is T-shirt day at Salisbury Elementary School and Feb. 24 is a district-wide Falcon Proud Day. Wear blue and white to show your Falcon pride!
Get ready for Read Across America March 2-6! This national event encourages children to develop a lifelong love of reading and kicks off March 2 with a birthday celebration for beloved author Dr. Suess. You don’t have to wait until March to start participating because reading is beneficial for children EVERYDAY – ALL YEAR LONG!
Mark your calendars 1-4 p.m. March 8 for the SES PTO Purse Bingo at Salisbury Middle School, 3301 Devonshire Road. Doors open 11:45 a.m. and advance tickets are available at salisburypto.membershiptoolkit.com/. The event includes a basket raffle, 50/50 drawing and food, drinks and desserts.
Kindergarten registration for incoming 2026-2027 future Falcons is now open. Eligible children must be 5 years of age before Aug. 31. Registration can be completed online at salisburysd.org/kindergarten and screenings will be held May 4-8. Welcome Class of 2039!
The Salisbury Township School District technology department is holding a series of free workshops for community members in the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road, Allentown. To register, call Mary Bishop at 610 797-2062, ext. 1000.
The next workshop entitled “Sharing Moments & Memories: Intro. To Google Photos, Slides & Meet” will be offered 9:30-10:30 a.m. March 11. Participants will learn how to turn memories into a simple slideshow presentation using Google Slides and connect with loved ones using Google Meet video calls. This is a beginner-friendly class for community members new to technology.
The Emmaus Public Library announced meLVin the Lehigh Valley Phantoms mascot will visit the library for a special afternoon story time 4 p.m. March 4. This fun for all ages event will feature stories about hockey and ice skating and no registration is required. Just drop in, join the fun and take some pictures with meLVin!
The Susquehanna Diner, 1701 Susquehanna St., Allentown, will hold a “Dine and Donate” event to benefit the Salisbury Music Association 2-9 p.m. March 5. Proceeds will support the marching band and in-school music programs. Dine-in and take-out orders are eligible to participate but delivery app orders are not included in the event.
The Wildland’s Conservancy will host a 3.5 mile Get Out! For Wellness: South Mountain Preserve hiking event 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 28. The South Mountain Preserve is located at 28th Street SW, Allentown. Register for this event and find out more details at wildlandspa.org/events/.
The Ladies Aid Society of Jerusalem Salisbury Church will hold an indoor yard sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 7. Donated items will be accepted 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 6. Donations of baked goods on the day of the event are also welcomed.
