Roughies Report: Students named to honor society
Congratulations to the 60 new members, including Catasauqua High School students Arabella Gulich (commercial baking), Maliya Walp (cosmetology) and Steven Santiago (health and medical sciences), for being inducted into Lehigh Career and Technical Institute’s National Technical Honor Society during a ceremony Feb. 10 at Lehigh Carbon Community College. Hundreds of the inductees’ family members and friends were on hand for the 26th annual event, which featured remarks from Dr. Sandip Ladani.

Thirty-eight LCTI students earned medals Feb. 4 at Allentown Fairgrounds Agri-Plex during the SkillsUSA Council District 11 Championships. Congrats to CHS students Arabella Gulich (commercial baking, team of two) for placing second in cake decorating and Rylee Meisner-Boshell (health and medical sciences) for placing third in basic health care skills.
The championships drew hundreds of participants from five schools. They competed in individual and team contests of skill ranging from advertising design to welding.
Dozens of Lehigh Valley businesses sponsor the competition, which provides opportunities for students to apply what they’ve learned in challenging scenarios that mimic the demands of a 21st-century workplace.

Applications for both LCTI’s future educators program and for new students for the 2026-27 school year are being accepted.
For future educators, the intensive, dual-enrollment program provides students with an opportunity to earn 14 tuition-free credits toward a bachelor’s degree during their senior year of high school. Students will observe and engage in public schools across the Lehigh Valley. Learning to develop and then deliver lessons in K-12 classrooms is part of the program curriculum. LCCC courses are built around high school schedules.
If you will be a new student, make sure to learn about the application process, review the application FAQs and check out the application essay rubric. Applications are scored on a 100-point rubric, and the essay is worth 60 points.
The deadline for submitting your application for both is March 1. Note: For new students, completed applications aren’t submitted until LCTI receives a response to the parent-approval email.
