Letter to the Editor: Daniels family needs our help

To the Editor:

The Daniels family, of Coplay, is in need of the community’s help.

The journey started in 2023, when Kathy had a bleeding stomach ulcer. She went into surgery, which was supposed to be a simple fix. They ended up nicking her spleen and had to go back into surgery.

During that surgery, Kathy had a stroke. After coming out of surgery, the drain tube they put in to drain the spleen got lodged into her colon. It all turned septic.

After dealing with the infection throughout her body, she had a heart attack and needed a pacemaker.

After all of this, they took a scan to make sure everything was working properly. That is when they found a brain tumor.

Two weeks before Christmas, she went in to remove the tumor, giving her a 50/50 chance of pulling through. Kathy has been making a slow but steady recovery.

Through all of these medical issues, Kathy had to leave her job and her husband, Jack, had to leave his job and restructure their lives so he could be there to take care of their three young boys. The children had to be home schooled to avoid any illnesses that may have been brought home.

Their finances took a huge hit, and the bills started to pile up, including the medical bills that insurance wouldn’t pay, which were astronomical.

Our charity, Tears For Kids, as well as family and friends had taken care of making the holidays memorable for the family. We have been helping the family out as much as we have been able to financially and also with food.

They are a proud family and do not want to take help. However, it has gotten to the point of financial ruin. They need help! Kathy’s progress has been slow.

To add to the frustration, they found out that Kathy has nodules on her lungs, and Jack went in for a procedure for skin cancer.

The family had been through so much that Tears For Kids feels the need to start a fund drive to help them in any way possible. We didn’t want to start a GoFundMe page, only because we want every penny to go to the Daniels family.

Kathy, Jack and the boys really need all the help we can give them. You can send your contributions either through Venmo or to Tears For Kids c/o Daniels family, 4018 High Road, Kempton, 19529.

The Venmo information can be found on both the Tears For Kids Facebook page and at tearsforkids.com. Mark donations as c/o the Daniels family.
