Districts next for K-Kids

Heading into the upcoming District 11 Class 6A playoffs, Northampton finds itself in a familiar position.

The Konkrete Kids again were the number one seed after they successfully defended their East Penn Conference title when they recently defeated Parkland, 52-49.

Being the number one seed, the Kids will play the winner of the game between ninth-seeded Stroudsburg and eighth-seeded Pocono Mountain East. They will open the postseason Saturday at Easton for a 4 p.m. tip-off.

Head coach Matt Scholl is confident his team can advance past their opening-round game. The Kids defeated Stroudsburg, 58-47, on Dec. 18, and they downed Pocono Mountain East, 70-47, on Jan. 15.

Northampton will enter the district playoffs on a six-game winning streak, and they have won 11 of their last 12 games.

“We played them both early in the season and won both games comfortably,” said Scholl. “With a week of practice to prepare, we will be ready.”

The Kids have had a balanced scoring attack throughout the season, led by senior Noah Walakovits, who broke the 1,000-point career scoring barrier earlier this season.

Walakovits is averaging 14.8 points per game, followed by fellow seniors Brady Simock (9.88), and Leo Regec (9.12). Sophomore Jake Raysely (8.12) and senior Korbin Sollars (7.0). The Kids are averaging 56.16 points per game, and they are allowing 41.04 per game.

Regec is confident his team will advance to the next round, seeking their first district crown since 1973.

“I see the matchup as another obstacle standing in our way from another championship,” said Regec. “Both teams are competitive and play tough. We played both teams earlier in the year, but I think if we play to our standard, we should come out with the win.”

Leo Regec and the Kids head to districts.
