Catasauqua receives funding to upgrade water meters

The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) held a board meeting Jan. 21 to award loan and grant funding for the latest round of applicants. From this meeting, a project in Catasauqua Borough, advocated by state Sen. Miller, D-14th, and state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, was approved.

Catasauqua will receive $1,021,000 for water service billing meter replacements. The loan funding will be used to replace all existing meters to enhance system efficiency, accuracy and reliability for the community.

“Our water systems require ongoing upgrades, and I’m proud to announce Catasauqua Borough will receive the support needed to provide clean, safe water for residents,” Miller said. “By replacing outdated meters with smart water metering technology, the borough will improve efficiency, prevent revenue loss and promote water conservation, benefiting families, businesses and the environment now and for generations to come.”

“This PENNVEST loan will help Catasauqua Borough modernize its aging water system by replacing outdated meters that are no longer accurately capturing water use,” McNeill said. “Upgrading to new meters will allow for improved efficiency, strengthened financial stability and will ensure residents are paying only for the water they use. This investment is an important step toward a more reliable and sustainable water system for the community.”

PENNVEST’s mission is to fund projects that improve water quality, protect public health, support environmental safety and promote economic development. The PENNVEST board of directors meets quarterly to vote on the approval to fund project applications submitted by each meeting’s application cutoff date.

Earlier this year, Miller hosted an information session with PENNVEST for local municipalities and organizations, highlighting available financing opportunities and reinforcing his commitment to keeping stakeholders informed about state resources.
