Students take first place at GLVADA

February’s cold but Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical student winners were hot.

Nathan Newcomer and Julian Korpics took first place in the Greater Lehigh Valley Automotive Dealers Association automotive technology competition recently. Nate and Julian are both seniors at Northampton HS.

With the first place finish Nate and Julian each won a $4,000 scholarship to Northampton Community College and a full ride 100 percent scholarship to Universal Technical Institute ($45,000-$65,000 value depending on the courses they would choose at UTI). They also won numerous hand tools and Milwaukee power tools.

Both students are cooperative education students. Nate is employed at Kratzer Septic Service and Julian at Nazareth Ford. Their instructors are Howie Nonnemacher and Jeff Cantrel.

Students from BAVTS competed at the SkillsUSA Council District 11 competition at Ag Hall in February. The competition showcased nearly 400 of the top career and technical students from Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton and Upper Bucks counties demonstrating their abilities in 33 skilled trade competitions. Winners will represent the region in the Pa. SkillsUSA Championships in April.
