Township crash

State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, say Troopers are investigating an alleged one-vehicle reportable DUI crash which occurred around 2:11 a.m. Jan. 11 off of the westbound lane of Willow Street near Bridge Street, North Whitehall.

According to police, a 22-year-old male, of Catasauqua, was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup westbound on Willow Street after passing Bridge Street, when it lost traction due to the wet road conditions and began sliding.

He then lost control of his pickup and it traversed off the right side of the roadway before striking a tree.

Police say post impact, the pickup remained in a final rest with its front end resting against the tree.

According to police, the driver was later determined to allegedly be under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody without incident.

The driver, who was wearing his seat belt, was assessed by North Valley EMS for suspected minor injury, but denied further treatment.

He was charged with driving under the influence and unsafe driving, and criminal charges will be filed against him, police say.

Two-vehicle collision

in North Whitehall

State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, say a 43-year-old male, of Bethlehem, was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima when it collided with a 2021 Ford commercial chassis, FedEx delivery truck driven by a 55-year-old male, of Easton, around 10:11 a.m. Jan. 28 on Route 309, North Whitehall.

According to police, this two-vehicle collision occurred as the Nissan was traveling directly behind the FedEx delivery truck north on Route 309 in the right lane of travel approaching the driveway at 4429 Route 309.

The FedEx truck activated its right turn signal in preparation to turn into the Route 309 driveway.

Due to the size of the FedEx truck and there was a large accumulation of snow surrounding the Route 309 property, impeding its driveway, the truck straddled the left lane and the right lane of travel to negotiate a wide right turn into the driveway.

The Nissan, while following behind the FedEx truck, attempted to pass the truck on it’s right side, police say.

As the FedEx truck proceeded to negotiate its right turn into the driveway, the Nissan’s front left-end stuck the truck’s front right-end.

The Nissan continued off the roadway after this first point of impact, where it crashed into a snow embankment located off the right shoulder of Route 309, subsequently striking the mailbox belonging to the homeowner of the Route 309 address.

Both vehicles remained at final rest at the scene of impact, police say.

According to police, the roads were dry, skies were clear, moderate traffic conditions and the temperature was approximately 14 degrees Fehrenheit at the time of the collision.

The Nissan sustained disabling front-end damage and the FedEx truck sustained disabling front right-end damages.

Police say one driver related shoulder pain from the collision.

The other driver related no injuries, police say.

The Nissan was towed from the scene by Altas Towing.

Due to the damage to the front right tire of the FedEx truck, it was unable to be safely driven and was towed from the scene by Ironton Towing.

A driver exchange report was prepared, printed and issued to both drivers at the scene, police say.

Police say the driver of the Nissan Altima was charged with unsafe overtaking vehicle on right.

Trooper Kraichley assisted at the collision scene.
