Mary Hope (Luft) Gustafson, 77, of Ocean City, N.J. and formerly of Macungie, died peacefully in her home Jan. 29, 2026. She was born in New Orleans, La., to the late Jay Louis Luft and Juanita (Smith) Luft. She lived in nearby Gretna, La., graduating from West Jefferson High School in 1966. She married Eric Gustafson in Algiers, La., notably during a rare and significant snowstorm.

She worked in data processing for Shell Oil in New Orleans, La. and Houston, Texas. She and the family lived in Mechanicsburg and Macungie.

In 1991, she graduated from Lehigh County Community College with an associate degree as a certified medical assistant. She worked approximately 10 years at Dr. Bub’s office in Emmaus before retiring and moving to Ocean City, N.J.

She enjoyed snow skiing, ice skating, water sports, bowling, tennis and golf. She enjoyed crafting, cooking and traveling.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Andrew, of Buras, La., Douglas, of Buras, La.; daughter, Audra, of Houston, Texas; grandsons, Reid, Lukas; granddaughters, Ella, Cayleigh, Julianna, Madilynn.

Godfrey Funeral Home, Ocean City, N.J., is entrusted with arrangements.
