Lafayette College has Roomful of Teeth

“Roomful of Teeth pairs extraordinary musical mastery with a spirit of discovery, creating an experience that feels welcoming, surprising and deeply human,” says Marta Kepka, Director of Marketing for the Arts at Lafayette College.

“I will be in the audience joining our longtime patrons and those attending for the first time, all of us eager to share in an experience that reimagines what it means to create and perform music,” Kepka says.

Roomful of Teeth is in concert, 8 p.m. Feb. 7, Williams Center for the Arts, Lafayette College.

The music presented by the vocal octet Roomful of Teeth is enchanting, captivating and showcases the agility and capability of the human voice. They present music in its purest form.

“We’re so excited to bring some of our very favorite music to Lafayette College,” says Cameron Beauchamp, Roomful of Teeth Artistic Director.

“Through our singing, our hope is to always leave a listener curious, ecstatic and full of warmth,” Beauchamp says.

Founded in 2009, the group has won two Grammy awards for Best Music, Small Ensemble Performance.

The first Grammy in 2014 was for their self-titled debut album, which focused on expanding the vocal repertoire and featured works by composers Sarah Kirkland Snider and Judd Greenstein.

The second Grammy 10 years later was for their third album, “Rough Magic,” which addresses the “beauty and struggle of language” and includes works by composer William Brittelle.

The concert may include not only traditional but also lesser-known vocal techniques such as Tuvan throat-singing, Inuit rhythmic-pulsing and Appalachian belt-singing.

Says Kepka, “Ty Furman, Director of the Williams Center for the Arts Performance Series, programs each season with student experience and community connection top of mind.

“While he leads the season’s artistic choices, he values faculty insight when it comes to identifying extraordinary artists.

“Jennifer Kelly, professor and head of the [Lafayette College] Music Department and Director of Choral Activities, was especially instrumental in suggesting Roomful of Teeth, and we could not be happier to welcome them to Easton,” Kepka says.
