The Rev. Candi Cain-Borgman retires

The Rev. Candi Cain- Borgman celebrated her last sermon at Cedar Church, 3419 Broadway, Cetronia, Dec. 28, 2025. Cain-Borgman arrived at Cedar UCC in July 2017 taking over from retired Rev. Lee Schleicher.

Cain-Borgman is a native of Ottawa, Kan. She attended the University of Kansas studying nursing though she left before graduation. In 1988, her husband, Craig Borgman was hired by Air Products which brought the couple and their children to the Lehigh Valley.

Cain-Borgman served as the director of Christian education at the New Goshenhoppen UCC in East Greenville for nine years. She was admitted to the Lancaster Theological Seminary where she earned her Master of Divinity degree several years later. She began her ministry at Cedar UCC.

At the time of her arrival, Cedar was a Union Church, housing both Lutheran and UCC congregations. As in many traditional protestant denominations, Cedar was suffering declining membership. Because of this change, the congregations merged in 2023 creating Cedar Church. Cain-Borgman became the pastor of the unified congregation.

Members of the Cedar Advisory Board of Cedar Church, 3419 Broadway, Cetronia – Phil Horlacher, Chris Ellis, Tammy Boyer, Jeanine Leonard, Sue Phillips, Ron Kozz, Zach Borger and Maggie Gabel, gather in the church sanctuary to celebrate the retirement of the Rev.
