Legislators announce $2.1 million in roadway and sewer infrastructure funding

State Sen. Jarrett Coleman, R-16th and state Reps. Gary Day, R-187th and Zachary Mako, R-183th announced $2.1 million in state grant funding to support Lehigh County roadway and sewer infrastructure projects in their legislative districts in a press release dated Jan. 20.

The funding was administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

Local recipients include Lower Macungie Township and Macungie borough, according to the press release.

“These grants will help Lower Macungie Township make critical pedestrian safety improvements and ensure accessibility for all residents, while the Macungie Borough Authority can upgrade aging water mains to provide reliable service.

“These projects reflect our commitment to creating safer neighborhoods and strengthening the foundation of our local infrastructure for years to come,” Day said in the press release.

Lower Macungie Township received $186,700 to construct pedestrian safety improvements along Brookside and Princeton roads as well as $322,134 to install ADA ramp and curb improvements in three neighborhoods.

The funding was through the Multimodal Transportation Fund Program.

Macungie Borough Authority received $348,239 for Phase II of the Buttonwood Street water main replacement project through the Small Water and Sewer Program.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants “to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth,” according to the press release.

The PA Small Water and Sewer Program “provides grants to municipalities and municipal authorities for water, sewer, stormwater and flood control projects.”
