Raymond J. Nika

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church member

Raymond J. Nika, 83, of Whitehall, died Jan. 25, 2026, in his home. He was the husband of Christine M. (Holley) Nika for 60 years.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Mary (Mezyk) Nika.

After Marian Catholic High School, he attended Penn State University and earned his associate degree in drafting and design. He later completed his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Lafayette College in Easton.

He served in the U.S. National Guard during the Vietnam era as a corporal.

He was employed by Bell Labs as a mechanical engineer for 38 years where he achieved and held two patents.

He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Coplay for 57 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Joseph E. and wife Denise; a daughter, Christine M. Bankos and husband Andrew; and four grandchildren, Madison, Austin Bankos, Alivia Bankos and Gavin.

He was predeceased by a brother, Alfred Kielbasa; and a sister, Florence Zemitis.

There will be a calling time 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial 10:30 a.m., Feb. 7 at the church, 4 S. Fourth St., Coplay, 18037.
