Hurricanes boys set for EPC tourney

Liberty wants to be hitting their stride as they head towards the postseason.

The Hurricanes (14-8) ended the season winning their last three games before gearing up for this week’s EPC basketball tournament.

The ‘Canes capped off the regular season Monday night with a 43-39 win over Nazareth to avenge an earlier season loss to the Blue Eagles.

Head coach Nigel Long hopes that all the work the group has put in this season can pay dividends now that the postseason has arrived.

“We want to be playing our best basketball of the season now,” said Long. “Stringing together wins late in the season certainly helps as we inch closer to the league and district playoffs.”

The Hurricanes knocked off Easton and Freedom last week before losing to Nazareth in Monday’s regular season finale.

Despite the defeat Long is confident in his group and their health when the EPC tournament gets underway on Friday.

“We are as healthy as we can be 22 games into the season,” he said. “I do believe that we are inching closer to hitting our stride.”

Liberty looks to be the sixth seed in the league playoffs and will have a tall task playing against the likes of Northampton (18-4) or Pocono Mountain West (19-3), two teams that the ‘Canes are a combined 0-3 against this season, but the beauty of conference tournament action is that anyone can beat anyone on a given night.

“The EPC tournament is always very competitive,” said Long. “This year there are a ton of teams who could make a run. Most importantly, we have to take each day and each practice to keep getting better in hopes of putting ourselves in the best position to compete in both the league and district tournaments.”
