EPC playoffs are set
The East Penn Conference boys’ basketball tournament will get underway this weekend and the field is set after Monday’s final day of the regular season.
Parkland (17-5, 15-1) will enter as the top seed and will take on Central Catholic (12-10, 9-7) in Friday’s quarterfinal round.
Northampton (18-4, 14-2) grabs the second seed and hosts seventh seeded Whitehall (11-11, 9-7) in a local rivalry. Pocono Mountain West (19-3, 14-2) is the third seed and battles Liberty (14-8, 12-4).
Allen (16-6, 12-4) and Nazareth (17-4, 12-4) will meet in a four-five showdown.
On the girls’ side, there was a play-in game Wednesday night between Dieruff (14-8, 9-7) and Liberty (12-10, 9-7) for the eighth seed. The winner of that contest heads to top-seeded Easton (19-3, 15-1) on Friday night.
Bethlehem Catholic (19-2, 15-1) is the second seed and takes on Pocono Mountain West (10-11, 10-6).
Third-seeded Emmaus (17-5, 14-2) faces Central Catholic (11-11, 11-5) and Parkland (16-4, 14-2) hosts Nazareth (15-7, 11-5) in the four-five matchup.
Northampton won the EPC title last year on the boys’ side and Emmaus are the defending girls champions.
Quarterfinal action begins Friday at the site of the higher seed before moving to the PPL Center.
The boys semifinals are on Monday and the girls semifinals on Tuesday night. Tipoff on both nights start at 6 p.m.
The girls championship is slated for 6 p.m. next Thursday with the boys closing things out at 8 p.m.
