LMMS students enjoy ‘Starry Night’
Lower Macungie Middle School’s student council hosted approximately 220 of its students at its “Starry Night” dance and gym night Jan. 23. Each ticket included entry fee, two snacks, two waters and a soda, face painting, photo ops and the bouncy house. Fifi’s Ice Cream Truck and Treats was available outside at an extra cost.
Student council advisers Dr. Heather Herman and Kadie Smith organized numerous staff and parent volunteers for the event.
President of the student council Leah Frantzen explained this event was for a certain grade level students and not a fundraising event. The ticket price absorbs the costs of the snacks, water, DJ and decorations.
According to Herman, the event normally “evens out.” Student council maintains a budget through fundraising events to help defray any additional cost of this event as well as the semiformal dance later this year.
As students were dropped off at the school, an illuminated path of luminaries led them to the auditorium entrance. Inside, students checked in and received their ticket which they could use to get snacks and drinks throughout the night.
Students could mingle in the lobby areas, dance to the music provided by Entertainer Troy Taylor of Holiday Sounds Disc Jockeys in the cafeteria or choose to play basketball or volleyball in the gym.
A bouncy house was also available free of charge in the gym.
The art teachers selected Yareliz Ramos, Lilly Mason and Samia Moreira to do face painting for interested students. Moreira volunteered to earn hours for her membership in National Junior Honor Society.
The students appeared to enjoy the evening time with their friends, playing basketball, volleyball and dancing.
The anticipated storm made the students appreciate being able to spend this time with their friends.
In addition to this dance, the student council has been working on creating a heart for every student, teacher and staff member that will be displayed throughout the school for Valentine’s Day.
In addition, the student council will hold a multicultural fair May 1. Individuals interested in being a part of this community event can reach out to Herman and Smith at the school.
