CAT opens new shop downtown

Press photos by Ben Felker-QuinnThe Coalition for Appropriate Transportation celebrates the opening of its new office and work-space inside the new Walnut Street Garage in downtown Bethlehem. CAT supports local cyclists, pedestrians and public transit riders throughout the Lehigh Valley. About 100-people attended the Jan. 23 event.
Highlights of the new space include five work-stations (one of which is ADA-compliant and kid-friendly), a TV by the window with live updates on LANTA bus locations, and their more accessible location in downtown Bethlehem near the Broad and Guetter bus stop. CAT volunteer Meg Slutter sewed the quilt on the wall using bicycle fabric and even a bicycle stitch.
Pictured here are CAT’s board of directors, several elected officials and representatives from the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, which sponsored the ribbon-cutting. During the ceremonies, CAT’s Executive Director Scott Slingerland thanked nearly everyone present for their support and mentioned there are nearly 400-bikes at the new space ready to be rebuilt and ‘adopted’ for adults and children in need of a bike. The bike workshop formally opens next week.
