BC ready for D-11 run
Bethlehem Catholic has been used to coming out of the District 11 team tournament as champions.
This year, however, will test their five-year reign as defending champs.
The Hawks (9-1) will likely enter Saturday’s tournament at Freedom as the third seed, which means a potential showdown with Emmaus (14-1) in the semifinals.
It could be a shot at redemption for the Hawks, who lost to the Green Hornets in the season opener for both teams 31-21 back in early December.
With Nazareth (10-1) expected to enter as the top-seed in 3A, a rematch with Emmaus could mean the difference between the Hawks defending their district crown and a trip to the PIAA tournament.
“I think mentally we are prepared for district duals,” said head coach Mike Cole. “Physically this full week of no competition will help us with some recovery.
I think there will be a lot of balance in this year’s bracket. Any team could win it. The team that steps up that day will win.”
The top eight teams in 3A could feature Liberty as well, as the Hurricanes (12-5) entered the week as the seventh seed with a bout this Wednesday against Freedom (7-8).
That result could dictate the ‘Canes ticket to the tournament, as Notre Dame (7-2), Stroudsburg (11-4) and Parkland (9-6) are all vying for the final two spots.
With the Hawks gearing up for another postseason run, Cole hopes their pedigree and belief can help propel the Hawks to another run at the championship.
“Positive mindset will be most of our preparation for year end,” he said. “I’m a big believer that you have to believe to achieve.”
