From now until March 31, shoppers at Giant Food stores can help feed kids in local school districts, one being Whitehall-Coplay School District.
When you check out at the register, round up your bill, and that rounded-up amount will go toward feeding children through an initiative called Feeding School Kids.
“We believe that no one should be hungry. That’s why we work with local hunger relief partners, like food banks, food pantries and public school districts, to eliminate hunger in the communities we serve,” Giant states on its website.
“Kids can’t learn without proper nutrition. When we donate funds to support school meal programs, we’re helping to connect kids to a better future through better nutrition and, in turn, a stronger education.
“Over the last five years, The GIANT Company’s Feeding School Kids Round Up program has supported public school districts in addressing childhood hunger in local communities. To date, The GIANT Company and its customers have donated more than $6.1 million through the Feeding School Kids Round Up Program,” the website continues.
For the 2025 program, a Lehigh Valley school district received recognition as one of the top earning schools — Bethlehem Area School District for $15,079.
In its April 17, 2025, edition, The Press reported a check for $2,600 was presented to WCSD administration from Giant staff.
According to Giant’s website, “$1,500,000 (was) raised during its 2024 Feeding School Kids initiatives to combat hunger in 171 local public-school districts, impacting an estimated 53,000 students.”
