N. Catty garbage, sewer invoices mailed to residents

During the Jan. 19 North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting, Treasurer Tricia Tillman said the yearly garbage invoices and quarterly sewer invoices were mailed to residents Jan. 12. There is a discounted rate on the $520 garbage bill if residents pay by Feb. 28 — $490 for seniors and $505 for non-seniors. The borough also offers quarterly payments, but they do not include the discount.

Tillman also mentioned the 2026 tax information form was submitted to the Department of Community and Economic Development, and she submitted the 2026 elected and appointed officials report.

In her office report, Tasha Jandrisovits said council received only one bid for utilizing heavy equipment. Lorah Trucking was awarded the bid and will provide equipment, such as backhoes and dump trucks, to North Catasauqua on an as-needed basis at a predetermined cost for each piece.

Also in her report to council, she mentioned the 2026 new salary and benefits information was updated in payroll; the school resource officer reimbursement request was sent for Aug. 25-Dec. 28, 2025; and W2s, 1099s and year-end taxes are in progress.

Councilman Scott Holmes, in his law committee report, brought up topics regarding the fire department, one of which was the discussion of the purchase of a $1 million firetruck. Although North Catasauqua was recently awarded a grant, the amount is not enough for the borough to purchase the engine right now. Council decided to wait until more funding comes through to make the purchase.

Holmes also questioned if there is liability on the borough if a department firetruck responds to calls it was not dispatched to. The solicitor and the borough’s insurance confirmed the coverage follows the vehicle.

Council President Pete Paone announced the finalization is almost complete for the Northampton County grant for the borough’s Community Days and summer concert series in 2026. The borough will be reimbursed the funds in the grant amount at the end of the year.

Also at the meeting, Mayor William J. Molchany Jr. talked about the planning for the J4 celebration and the 250th anniversary of the United States. Residents who are interested in helping with planning can attend the 7 p.m. Feb. 19 meeting at the municipal building, 1066 Fourth St., or email the committee at cattyareaJ4@gmail.com.

Council will next meet 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at the municipal building.
