Todd Ritter resigns from council
During the Jan. 19 Macungie Borough Council meeting, the vacancy on council was the first topic of discussion. Resident Lynette Sell was appointed with a motion and a second. Comments were made from the audience there was no mention of other candidates who had submitted letters of interest.
One of the candidates read her letter. Another candidate was mentioned as the fifth write in on the November 2025, ballot. The vote from council was 3-2 in favor of Lynette Sell. The two opposed were Megan Sell and Greg Reinbold. This was under Resolution 2026-01.
Dave Saylor spoke for the Friends of Macungie Institute and the Flower Garden. He complimented the borough manager for help with issues for the institute and the garden.
A resident spoke about the closing of the street where she resides. There was no warning of this and it causes problems when needing to leave her residence. She called the borough office with no response. She also sent an email. There was also no response. Efforts are being made to improve communication with borough residents understanding a transition is in process.

Mayor Bob Sell shared the police report. There were 169 incidents dispatched in 2025 compared to 2024 which had 185. There were domestic disturbances, juvenile and adult arrests.
Three traffic accidents and 34 vehicle stops with 24 citations, warnings and/or parking occurred. Council President Carl Sell requested the locations of the accidents.
The mayor spoke about Martin Luther King Jr. sharing the following quote. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
The Macungie Halloween Parade and Macungie Holidays have the borough’s contribution for their functions with the explanation of how this transpired. Improvements to the contribution procedures will occur before the next time of these events.
Council member Todd Ritter offered his resignation effective Feb. 1. He joined the meeting via telephone.
An executive session was held regarding personnel and legal matters.
