Andrew Szeplaki of Kutztown, and a former member of the Northampton track and field team, set a new Kutztown University and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference indoor pole vault records, Saturday, clearing 5.30 meters (17-4.5) to win the event at the Alvernia Spring Invitational.
In just his second collegiate meet, Szeplaki - a freshman - turned in the top mark in NCAA Division II this season. He moved from 10th to first on Kutztown’s all-time, top-10 list, surpassing the previous school record of 5.14m (16-10.25) set by All-American Joe Jardine at the NCAA DII Championships in 2024.
He also established a new PSAC record by topping the former mark of 5.24m (17-2.25) held by Slippery Rock’s Drew Layton since the 2025 NCAA DII Championships. Szeplaki was in a class of his own on Saturday, vaulting 2-feet, 7.25-inches higher than the second-place finisher.
