LHS wrestling to get tested this week
The wrestling season is winding down and Liberty is gearing up for the postseason with their toughest stretch of the season.
The Hurricanes (7-4) fell to the likes of Whitehall and Northampton last week and continue their gauntlet with a match against Emmaus (11-1) this week before hitting the road to the Quakertown Duals on Saturday.
Head coach Brandon Hall knows that facing some of the areas best teams late in the year will only help his team as they get ready for district duals and the individual postseason.
“The Whitehall match was a tough loss but man what a fun dual meet to be a part of,” said Hall of the 30-27 defeat. As a fan, you got your money’s worth if in attendance. Much like the Whitehall dual, Emmaus and Northampton will be a reinforcement of the work these kids put in the off season. All three of these teams really dominated us last year while also bringing most of their starters this season. We might not be where those teams are right now experience wise, but we are all about testing ourselves against the best so we can get better.”
The teams at this year Quakertown Duals include Delaware Military Academy, Delaware Valley, Quakertown, Saucon Valley, West Chester Rustin and West Scranton.
“Quakertown duals are excellent,” said Hall. “They run a smooth event that allows our JVs and varsity to compete together. We are home at a reasonable time while also seeing quality teams. All of these events and duals are preparation as you look to peak for the post season.”
Freedom (6-6) looks to shake off two straight defeats to Dieruff and Parkland with three bouts this week against Pleasant Valley, Stroudsburg and Nazareth.
Bethlehem Catholic came home from the Escape the Rock tournament over the weekend with two medalists, as Nico Emili took fourth at 121 and Keanu Dillard finished in fifth at 139.
The Hawks (7-1) have matches against East Stroudsburg North and Whitehall this week before getting ready for district duals.
