LHS girls finish tenth
Liberty’s female wrestlers took part in the Coal Cracker Tournament over the weekend at Jim Thorpe and came away with a tenth place team finish.
Eva Trujillo and Kierha Castillo were the lone medalists for Liberty.
Trujillo took fifth place at 124 following a forfeit in the consolation rounds and Castillo finished in eighth place following a 3-2 loss to Emma Selfe of Crestwood at 136.
Head coach Brian Burzynski was happy with how the team performed and getting as many place winners out of the event.
“We expected a strong showing at the Coal Cracker tournament,” said Burzynski. “While we may not be contending for the overall team title, we focused on the personal improvement of all our wrestlers. I am looking for consistency in our techniques, whether they are competing in the championship bracket or fighting through the consolation rounds.”
The Hurricanes are 4-2 on the year and have a dual against Emmaus this week before getting ready for the EPC championships this Saturday at Easton Area Middle School.
“A great indicator of our success has been scoring over 50 points against formidable opponents in Easton and Northampton,” said Burzynski of the team’s dual meet results. “It really highlights our strength and depth up and down our lineup.”
Freedom (4-5) was looking to flip their recent stretch of consecutive losses around to Nazareth and Parkland with matches against Pleasant Valley and Stroudsburg this week before gearing up for the EPC championships.
Bethlehem Catholic (0-5) was looking for the opportunity to pick up their first win of the season this week when they travel to East Stroudsburg North on Wednesday.
