Boys look to finish regular season strong
With two weeks left in their regular season, Northampton head boys’ basketball coach Matt Scholl expects his team to avoid the potholes in their pathway.
The Konkrete Kids began the week with an overall 12-3 record and the fourth seed in the district Class 6A bracket.
“We’ve entered the stretch run of the season with seven games remaining, including five league games, and every one of them will play a major role in league and district seeding,” emphasized Scholl. “There is very little margin for error from here on out.”
Aside from the Xs and Os, Scholl wants to keep his team able to execute plays.
“First and foremost, we need to stay healthy,” stressed Scholl. “Availability and recovery will be critical as the schedule tightens.
“At the same time, we must continue refining our offensive execution while maintaining the solid defensive identity that has put us in position to compete for meaningful games late in the season.”
Scholl hopes his club can avoid the late regular-season struggles that affected them last year.
“Last year at this point, we were struggling and dropping games,” said Scholl. “We’re proud of where we are now and the progress we’ve made, but we also know there is still work to be done.”
Leading scorer senior Noah Walakovits believes his team can again capture the East Penn Conference crown and make a deep postseason run.
“I’m feeling good about our chances,” he said. “We have a lot of opportunities to do great things. We are playing with the intent to win every game, no matter what happens.”
Scholl understands that his team needs to stay focused to have long-term success.
“If we want a chance to replicate last year’s special postseason run, we have to keep improving, stay locked in, and continue to raise our level of play every night,” said Scholl. “The opportunity is there ... now it’s about finishing the right way.”
