Todora earns gold at Holiday Classic
Parkland’s Braden Todora has been perfect this winter season for the Trojans.
During the recent Bethlehem Holiday Classic on December 28 and 29 at Liberty High School, the Trojan sophomore went 4-0 on his way to a first-place finish to close out 2025.
Todora, who competed at 114 pounds, was one of four Trojans who placed in the top three of their respective weight classes. Parkland placed fifth as a team out of the 30 competing schools, and their 127 team points were just four shy of fourth-place Whitehall.
In addition to Todora capturing gold, Luis Moya advanced to the championship match of the 107-pound bracket before falling short in a close match.
Matthew Velez and Jorge Moya both placed third in the 133- and 160-pound brackets, respectively.
“For the Holiday Classic, that was, from what I could tell, the highest finish that we’ve ever had for Parkland at that tournament,” Trojan head coach Eddie Keichel said. “That was good for us. Todora and Moya both made the finals and they wrestled fantastic. Velez and Jorge both finished third and they wrestled fantastic. And then we had a slew of other kids—three or four others—that could have placed.”
Todora picked up back-to-back technical falls in his first two matches, which advanced him to the championship semifinals and what Keichel believes was his toughest opponent of the tournament.
“His toughest match was the semifinal,” Keichel said. “[Nathan] Schuman from Honesdale is very, very good and talented. He wrestled a heck of a match and put himself in position to win it and did that.”
Todora then capped off his tournament with a 13-7 decision over Williamsport’s Jordan Piselli. He competed in the Parkland Winter Duals this past weekend and won his only two matches before bowing out with an illness.
“Knocking off the kids he’s knocked off so far, we’re not surprised by it because he has the ability,” Keichel said. “We’ve been telling him that. This is where he belongs. He’s finally got some confidence in himself and his wrestling, and he’s showing that he belongs among the state’s bests.”
Luis Moya won three straight matches in the Bethlehem Holiday Classic, two of which came via falls, including a quick first-period fall in the championship semifinals. His tournament run came to a close via a tough 4-1 decision in the championship round against Council Rock South’s Quinn Bagnell. He’s currently 19-2 on the season.
After losing in the second round of the Bethlehem Holiday Classic, Velez won three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket to advance to the third-place match. It was there he picked up his fourth win via decision of the tournament.
Jorge Moya went 4-1 in the tournament on his way to his third-place finish, winning by injury default in his final match over Southern Lehigh’s Keith Barker. His only loss was a 1-0 decision in the championship semifinals.
“We have a lot of guys who are competing hard,” Keichel said. “The rankings mean nothing, but it’s nice to see your name up there. We have a couple of guys that are ranked in the top eight in the state. We’re looking for those guys to continue setting the standard for these other cats to rise up to that level.”
A number of Trojans also had solid showings in the Parkland Duals. Luis Moya and Jorge Moya both went 6-0 at the 107- and 160-pound weight classes, respectively.
Luis Moya picked up two wins by pin in the tournament, both of which came in the first period. He also secured two dominant technical fall wins, an injury forfeit victory, and another win by forfeit.
Jorge Moya was just as dominant during the Parkland Duals. His opening match victory was a 20-2 technical fall and he never looked back, adding two wins by fall, two by decision, and one by major decision.
Parkland, as a team, went 4-2 with wins over La Salle College (44-17), Southern Lehigh (54-13), Quakertown (36-30) and Delaware Valley (44-29).
“It’s a long day,” Keichel said. “To go 4-2 and your two losses are against two teams [Boyertown and Council Rock South] that are in the top 10 in the state, that’s not a bad situation. We just have to get a little healthy and rest.”
Results from Wednesday’s match against Whitehall were not available at time of press. Parkland will next travel to Pittsburgh for the Mid-Winter Mayhem Tournament at the Kovalchick Convention Complex at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) on Friday and Saturday.
