SHS girls basketball hits difficult part of schedule

The Salisbury girls basketball team has hit some slick spots in the road and dropped three straight games.

The schedule has pitted them against some better competition lately, which has made maneuvering through the middle portion of the schedule a little tricky.

Against Southern Lehigh (5-5 overall, 3-3 Colonial League), Salisbury put up a strong effort and scored over 50 points for the third time this season. Southern Lehigh outlasted Salisbury and hung on for a 53-51 win in a Colonial League South Division matchup.

Three players scored in double figures with senior Kendra Morgan scoring 19 points, Izabella Gonzalez scoring 15, and Roxanna Cardenas getting 11.

Monday night, Salisbury was at Catasauqua to face a Rough Rider defense that can be very stingy. In six of its 10 games this season Catty (7-3 overall; 7-3 CL) has held its opponents to 35 or less points, which it did against Salisbury in a 58-30 win.

Morgan scored 15 points and the Rough Riders held the rest of the Falcons offense to single digits.

The three-game skid has dropped Salisbury to 6-5 overall. With two of the losses coming against league opponents, the Falcons’ record in the league has dipped to 4-4.

Salisbury is still in the playoff hunt as they currently occupy the eighth and final spot for a Colonial League playoff spot. Their 6-5 overall record is also good enough for them to qualify for districts in the 3A classification.

Thursday the Falcons host Saucon Valley (3-8, 3-6). The next night they travel to New Tripoli to face Northwestern Lehigh (9-3, 7-2) and then host Palmerton (8-4, 7-3) Monday.
