PHS boys get to 8-1 in EPC
The Parkland High School boys basketball team won two Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games dropped a nonconference game to highlight the start the new year.
The Trojans defeated East Stroudsburg South 61-34 Tuesday, Jan. 6. They followed that by beating Pleasant Valley 78-31 Friday. The weekend ended in defeat as Parkland was downed by Central York, 59-54, Saturday.
The game with the Cavaliers was in the hands of the Trojans immediately as they scored 23 of the game’s first 25 points in the first quarter and led 32-14 at halftime.
Parkland then outscored ESS 29-20 in the second half to finish off the game.
Tyler Beck led the way with a game-high 15 points. Each of Blake Nassry, Zion Barrera and Alex Barrera totaled nine points. Marcus Temchatin recorded six points and Ezekiel Gordner had four.
In the win over the Bears, it was very similar to the game prior as the Trojans outscored them 21-8 in the first quarter and went on top 38-17 at halftime, as they were able to finish off the game pressure free.
Beck and Alex Barrera combined for 41 points, with Beck scoring 22 and Barrera adding 19. Jude Ruisch tallied 11 points. Zion Barrera contributed six and Ryan Kearney added five points.
Parkland, which improved to 9-5 overall and 8-1 in the conference, has two conference games this week as it was at Easton this past Tuesday night and hosts Dieruff Thursday night. The Trojans will then welcome Allen to town on Tuesday night.
