The Emmaus wrestling team continued its outstanding season with a second-place finish in the Bethlehem Holiday Classic on December 28-29 at Liberty High School. The Hornets, who finished with 147 team points, finished only behind Nazareth (171 points).

Every Hornet wrestler won at least two matches—and seven won three or more—in what would be one of Emmaus’ top finish of the tournament’s history. Five Hornets placed in their respective weight classes as well.

Leading the way was Tegan Caciolo, who went 4-0 in the 121-pound weight class to take the tournament title. Two of his wins came via decision, including a convincing 7-1 win over North Allegheny’s Evan Schomburg in the championship match.

Emelio Albanese made it all the way to the championship match in the 127-pound bracket before falling in the championship match. Albanese went 3-1 in the tournament, with two of those wins coming via technical fall.

Xyler Sallit also reached a championship match. He came up short in that final match, but that didn’t tell the entire story of his tournament. Sallit went 4-1 over the course of the two days to secure his second-place finish. Two of his four wins came via fall.

Xayden Sallit placed sixth in the tournament. He won his first two matches in the 172-pound bracket, one of which came via fall in the opening match. He then lost his final three matches to secure his sixth-place mark.

Jackson Max went 3-2 during his run in the 139-pound bracket. Max won three of his first four bouts before Nazareth’s Cooper Wenrich’s ended his run in that third-place match.

Emmaus will next take the mat against Nazareth on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
