The Emmaus girls wrestling team took third place at the Souderton Big Red Tournament last weekend.
The Hornets’ Olivya Kroope (155) led the effort with a second-place finish at the event, held Jan 9-10 at Souderton High School. Five Emmaus wrestlers made it to place matches Saturday afternoon.
Ariana Koberlein (148) finished third at the event, with Brynn Koberlein (136) taking fourth place. Teammates Nitzana Jamaica (100) and Petra Perez (190) both finished sixth at the tournament.
Kroope pinned her first three opponents to reach the title match, where Hayden Manning (Abington Heights) won the title with a 9-6 win by sudden victory.
The Koberleins both lost semifinal matches but bounced back with wins in the consolation bracket to earn a place in the third-place match.
The Hornets pulled out a 39-33 win over Nazareth last Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Brynn Koberlein, Haily Laible, Ariana Koberlein, Kroope and Jocelyn Vargas all pinned their Blue Eagle opponents. Sarah Lysinger won her match by decision and Perez picked up a win by forfeit.
Emmaus is now 12-2 overall with a week off before embarking on a busy schedule as the regular season winds down. The Hornets are scheduled to compete in the Lebanon Tournament on Sunday. They will host Liberty next Wednesday, Jan. 21 and travel to Parkland next day.
The East Penn Conference Championships are slated for Saturday, Jan. 24. District 11 Championships are two weeks later, Feb. 14-15.
