EHS girls basketball still unbeaten in EPC

The Emmaus girls basketball team headed into the holiday break having won seven of their first eight games overall and were unbeaten at 7-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

Over the break, Emmaus split two games at the Easton Rotary Invitational, beating Executive Education Charter 57-51 before falling to the host Red Rovers in the championship game, 52-40.

“I thought the girls played well and really worked hard in those two games,” said head coach Avon Mack. “It was good getting a win under our belts and getting to play against a quality team we don’t normally see. Then against Easton, that’s a great team and we’re going to probably see them again down the road in the postseason. It was such a great challenge for us and we enjoy playing in that tournament every season.”

In the win over Executive, Emmaus was down 41-37 heading to the fourth quarter. The Hornets outscored EEC 20-10 to complete the comeback victory. Gabby DeVita tallied a game-high 19 points and Olive Whitney tallied 17 points. Gracie Ervin netted eight points.

“Those two have been so good offensively for us all season,” Mack said about DeVita and Whitney. “And we hope they continue it moving forward.”

In the game with Easton, DeVita once again led all scorers with 21 points and Sierra Stevens added seven.

Emmaus, 8-2 overall and 7-0 in the EPC is in first place in the Lehigh Division.
