Bethlehem City Council held its reorganizational meeting Jan. 5 with Grace Crampsie Smith and Kiera Wilhem finishing their terms and not seeking reelection. Both councilwomen were recognized for their contributions to council and the community. Joining council are newly elected Councilwoman Jo Daniels and Councilman Justin Amann.
Wilhelm, who has served council since 2022, said she appreciated “the processes, procedures and people required to make a city run.”
Ending his tenure as council president was Michael Colon, who will continue his term. Taking the helm in his place is Councilwomen Rachel Leon, with Councilwomen Colleen Laird as vice president.
Controller George Yasso was sworn in for his third and final term. Yassso has been controller since 2015 and will not to run for another term.
Newly elected and reelected council members will see an increase in annual salary – Bryan Callahan, Colon and Laird will not. Council president’s salary will change from $7,600 to $11,400 a year and council members’ annual pay will increase from $7,100 to $10,650.
Mayor William Reynolds did not support the salary increases that also included an increase for the mayor and controller, that did not pass. Only increases for council passed.
