Hawks on win streak

It was a good week for Bethlehem Catholic’s basketball team and the Hawks look to build off getting back to .500 this week with a slate of three games.

The Hawks (7-7) picked up two wins over Freedom and Easton last week to get back on level ground and for head coach Scott McClary it was a good sign for the team.

“Last week was a solid week for us picking up two wins,” said McClary. “The boys have been stacking great practices and it was nice to see them getting rewarded.”

Brodie Muir led the Hawks with 18 points in the win over Easton and Parker McClary paced the team with 14 points in the win over Freedom.

The Hawks have been dealing with their share of injuries as of late and McClary hopes that bug can remedy itself with some time.

“With all of the injuries we have had and we continue to suffer, having any flow on offense has been a real struggle,” he said. “We have had to reinvent ourselves a bunch and we don’t have many individual scorers so the opponent can really key in on who we do have out there. Hopefully we get a player or two back in the next few weeks.”

With some momentum behind them, the Hawks have three games this week against Emmaus (6-7), Pleasant Valley (2-11) and Harry S. Truman (8-5).

McClary wants to see his team keep improving and as long as their defense stays up to par, it’ll keep the Hawks in every game.

“Where I have been pleased is how we have been able to perform on defense,” said McClary. “That is definitely what has given us a chance to win those last two games.”

Liberty (8-6) split their games last week, knocking off Easton 59-33, but falling to Nazareth 56-49.

Jake Pukszyn torched the Rovers for 23 points in the win. Jarrell Teague led the ‘Canes with 18 points in the loss to Nazareth.

The Hurricanes have three games on tap this week against Allen, East Stroudsburg South and Lower Merion.

Freedom (1-14) suffered defeats to Bethlehem Catholic and Northampton last week. The Pates have contests against Dieruff and Stroudsburg this week.
