Whitehall’s strong start against Freedom was lost in the fourth quarter as frustration mounted when a steady stream of fouls was called on the Zephyrs in their 60-46 loss to the Patriots on Jan. 10 at Whitehall.
Whitehall took a two-point lead to end the first quarter on consecutive buckets from Abby Kneller and Jade Snyder.
The Zephs went on a 6-0 run in the second quarter on two steals by Jaylene Wilson and an interception by Llyneida Otanez, but Freedom responded with a 10-0 run on foul shots and defensive rebounds resulting in points.
Freedom coach Deanna Radio and Whitehall coach James Middleton expressed their dissatisfaction with several foul calls as well as jump balls in the last three quarters of the game.
Freedom took a 26-21 lead into halftime, and Whitehall opened the third quarter with back-to-back 3s from Otanez and Corynn Troxell.
The Zephyrs cut Freedom’s lead to four points by the end of the third quarter, but Whitehall had three players in foul trouble, and the Patriots went ahead, 48-38, at the 6:34 mark.
Morgan Povolko’s 3-pointer, followed by Gabby Sena’s bucket all but sealed the game for the Pates.
Troxell had a game high 20 points for the Zephyrs.
This week, Whitehall will host Emmaus on Jan. 15.
