Girls fall to FHS

It has been a tough season for the Konkrete Kids girls basketball team. On Friday night, Freedom visited Pete Schneider Gymnasium and went home happy as the Patriots defeated Northampton 40-31.

For the K-Kids turnover troubles reared their heads once again as they coughed up the ball 23 times to just 10 for the visitors.

The main disappointment was that it was a winnable game. The two teams were even at 12 points apiece until Freedom scored the final four points of the first quarter to go up 16-12.

Northampton scored the first two baskets of the second period to draw even but were held scoreless for the rest of the half and fell behind 24-16 at the intermission.

They were able to trim the lead to 29-23 after three quarters and scored first in the final period to make the margin four points but were never able to make it a one-possession game.

Abbie Luipersbeck led the Kids with 7 points. Isabella Pecuch had 6 points and led the team with 12 rebounds.

Head coach Jeff Jacksits provided his thoughts after the game, “We get going, we’re finally playing, and all of a sudden… It’s mental. We’re just not strong enough basketball-wise. We’ll have the right idea, but we don’t execute it fast enough. Or we make a bad pass. Or we make a good pass and miss a layup. Hopefully, we’re learning.”

The K-Kids are 4-10 overall for the season and 2-8 in the conference. While a postseason bid is a mere mathematical possibility, they do have the opportunity to notch a couple of home wins this week in front of their hometown fans.

Tonight, they host 3-10 Pocono Mountain East with a chance to go 4-0 against Monroe County teams this season. Saturday morning is their annual clash with Whitehall with a Cement Belt point up for grabs. The Zephyrs are 6-9 this year and 4-6 in the EPC.
