North Catasauqua: J4 Committee seeking members; meeting is Jan. 15

The Catasauqua and North Catasauqua J4 Committee is looking for new members and volunteers to help organize the community celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary, which occurs this year. The next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at borough hall.

Any North Catasauqua resident interested in joining to help plan the celebration or volunteer is asked to attend a meeting or email the committee at cattyareaJ4@gmail.com and provide your contact information.

The next North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting will take place 7 p.m. Jan. 19 in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St.

This meeting is subject to change or cancellation, so check the borough website at northcatasauqua.org for any changes. Visit this website to also access the code to view the meeting virtually.

Catasauqua High School’s music department is holding its annual popcorn fundraiser. Visit the department’s Facebook page for further details and the link to order.

The fundraiser ends Jan. 21.

Pickup for the St. John Fisher Catholic Church Kornfeind’s sandwich sale is 4-6 p.m. Jan. 21 in the lower-level church hall, 1229 Third St.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, is having a baked ham dinner Jan. 24. Seatings are 4:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The menu includes baked ham, pierogi casserole, roll and a dessert bar.

Cost is by donation. Proceeds benefit the Clubhouse of Lehigh County, which offers individuals with mental illness hope and opportunities to achieve full potential.

Salem United Church of Christ, 615 Third St., Catasauqua, is having a tote bag fundraiser. Orders are due by Jan. 25.

There is a cost for each bag with a reduced cost for multiple bags. You may also sponsor a bag for a shut-in at a reduced cost.

Catasauqua American Legion Post 215, 330 Second St., will be hosting a Super Bowl party Feb. 8, starting 6 p.m.

There will be food, drinks and the game on a big-screen TV. There is a cost.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua, 210 Pine St., will hold its monthly food drive 10 a.m.-noon Feb. 13 in the church parking lot. Drive through to donate your items.

Nonperishable food items will be accepted to benefit Catasauqua Community Food Bank.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, will hold its cash bingo Feb. 15 in the parish center. The doors and kitchen open 11:30 a.m., with bingo beginning 1 p.m.

There is a cost, which includes 15 games, seven specials and one jackpot round. Bring your daubers but no hardboards.

No outside food or drinks are permitted; the kitchen will be selling your favorites.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua’s next free community lunch is set for 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Feb. 16. The lunch is for community members with food insecurity or those who could use a helping hand.

The church is also accepting donations for the Roughie Pantry. The pantry is set up to “love our school-aged neighbors.” The pantry is currently accepting shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, body wash, tampons, sanitary napkins, etc. Collection bins are located at the church entrances.

Catasauqua Garden Club is welcoming new members. Meetings take place 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month beginning in April at Slovak Center Social Club, 1223 Fifth St., North Catasauqua.

If you are interested in joining, contact the club by early February. There will be an organization meeting the end of February to collect dues and distribute the club handbook.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church will be holding its Warm Up Wednesday gatherings 4-6 p.m. each Wednesday. This is a free soup night and everyone in the Catasauqua area is welcome.

Consider donating to the Catasauqua Community Food Bank, 527 Front St. The food bank is in need of pasta, cereal, soup, rice, stuffing, instant potatoes, granola bars and peanut butter crackers.

Donations may be dropped off during open hours, 3-4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Monetary donations are also accepted. Any donations or checks to the food bank must be written to Catasauqua Community Partnership or CCPI, due to banking regulations.
