State Sen. Jarrett Coleman, R-16th and State Rep. Gary Day, R-187th announced Dec. 18, 2025, a project to develop the Grange Park Loop Trail in Upper Macungie Township was awarded a state grant of $250,000 from the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program.

Plans for the project include constructing a 10-foot wide, five-kilometer pathway along the edge of Grange Park.

Work would also include the planting of trees along the trail and a wildflower meadow to help with stormwater management.

The township may hold 5K races once the trail is complete.

“Having opportunities to enjoy the outdoors is one of the things that sets Lehigh County apart,” Coleman said. “Projects like the Grange Park Loop, open up new opportunities for folks to explore some of the beauty that’s in their own backyard.”

“The Grange Park Loop Trail is a great example of how Act 13 funding can create safe, beautiful spaces for everyone to enjoy the outdoors,” Day said. “This grant will help Upper Macungie Township maintain a lasting asset for residents and visitors alike.”

The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program funds projects involving development, rehabilitation and improvements to public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails and river conservation.

The grants are funded through the Marcellus Shale Fund, which was created by Act 13 of 2012.

The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development which administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
