Early school dismissal Jan. 9

Whether you’ve vowed to eat less, listen more, exercise, cook more meals at home, read a few good books or put down the phone more often, winter can be a tough time to start new habits. Make a plan and go for it while allowing yourself the grace to make a few missteps. In the words of Dennis DeYoung, “Winners are losers who got up and gave it one more try.”

In school district news, all Salisbury Township schools will be dismissed early Jan. 9 starting with Salisbury High School and Salisbury Middle School 12:15 p.m. and Salisbury Elementary School 1:15 p.m. It is also T-shirt day at SES.

Looking ahead, schools will be closed Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The end of the second marking period is Jan. 22 at SMS and Jan. 23 at SHS.

The Salisbury Township School District’s technology department is holding a series of free technology workshops for community members. The first workshop entitled “Getting Started With Google: Tools to Make Life Easier” will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 14 at the administration building. Register by calling Mary Bishop at 610-797-2062, ext. 1000.

There will be an operations and finance committee meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 14. On Jan. 21, a curriculum and technology committee meeting will be held 7 p.m. followed by a regular school board meeting. All meetings take place at the administration building.

The township recycling centers are closed for the season and will reopen in the spring.

Curbside Christmas tree collection will be held Tuesdays in January.

The recreation advisory committee will meet 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 in the township administration building, 2900 S. Pike Ave., Allentown.

The Ladies Aid Society of Jerusalem Lutheran Church of Western Salisbury, 3441 Devonshire Road, Allentown, meets 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays in the chapel. All are welcome for crafting and/or fellowship. You can come and go as your schedule allows.

The Ladies Aid Society will hold an indoor yard sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 7. Donations of items will be accepted 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 6. Donations of baked good items for the day of the event are also welcome.
