Council reorganizes, elects new president
At the Jan. 5 meeting of Macungie Borough Council, newly elected council members and the mayor were administered the oath of office by The Honorable Thomas A. Capehart. Macungie Mayor Robert Sell Jr. was sworn in for a four-year term. Council members Ronald Karboski, Gregory Hutchison, Greg Reinbold and Megan Sell were sworn for four-year terms.
Carl Sell was nominated by council members as president and approved. Karboski was nominated and approved as vice president. Hutchison was nominated and approved as pro tempore. Karboski, Megan Sell and Hutchison were nominated and approved to the committee for police union negotiations. Kalman Sostarecz Jr. was appointed borough manager, secretary and treasurer. Sostarecz will also be the open records officer.
The zoning officer is Becky Rabenold from Barry Isett and Associates.
Joshua Fry, PE, department head of the Municipal Engineering Services team of Barry Isett & Associates, gave a report on the Hickory Street bridge. He said the Hickory Street bridge plans are in the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s hands now. Various reports were filed and now need action from PennDOT. It will be an unspecified time for approval and further action.
Mayor Robert Sell Jr. spoke about a newsletter he will provide for residents.
Roasties Coffee, 100 W. Main St., Macungie, will have its grand opening 9 a.m. Jan. 10 with the ribbon-cutting ceremony 10 a.m.
The ratification of the termination of former Borough Manager John Brown was approved by a vote of 3-2. Megan Sell and Reinbold were not part of the council when this situation occurred.
The filling of the vacant council seat was tabled for two weeks. There are two residents, Lynette Sell and Stanley Landis, interested in the seat; their letters were read to the audience. An advertisement will be placed as well as information put on the website.
An executive session was held over legal issues.
