LCTI’s emerging health professionals and animal sciences programs are perfect fits for high school seniors who plan to pursue careers in health care or the care and treatment of animals.

These programs are made possible by the partnerships of LCTI, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Penn State Lehigh Valley, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Lehigh Valley Zoo and Macungie Animal Hospital.

The programs are intensive and dual enrollment, designed to give students a head start on college and expose them to a variety of professions in health care and animal sciences and veterinary medicine through job shadows, hands-on training and clinical study at facilities across the region.

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2026-27 school year, and the submission deadline for applications is Jan. 23.

Aspiring teachers who want to get a head start on college for free should consider LCTI’s future educators program. The intensive, dual-enrollment program provides students with an opportunity to earn 14 tuition-free credits toward a bachelor’s degree during their senior year of high school. To be considered for admission to this program, students must meet the following criteria: reside in a Lehigh County school district, be entering their senior year of high school, have a grade-point average of 2.5 or better, have an excellent attendance record, have a written recommendation from their high school counselor or teacher and meet the academic prerequisites for LCCC.

Students in the program earn 14 credits from LCCC while they’re still in high school. That’s a semester’s worth of coursework, and the credits are readily transferable to schools like Kutztown, Millersville, Penn State and others.

Students observe and engage in public schools across the Lehigh Valley. Learning to develop and then deliver lessons in K-12 classrooms is part of the program curriculum. Students also have opportunities to step out of the classroom and into less traditional learning spaces like Da Vinci Science Center and Lehigh Valley Zoo.

LCCC courses are built around high school schedules. Students are bused between their sending high schools and LCTI, which is across the street from LCCC and accessible via a five-minute walk. No additional transportation is required.

Applications are already being accepted for the 2026-27 program, but there’s plenty of time to submit an application before the March 1 deadline. Visit lcti.org for more information.
