North Catasauqua: Borough zoning hearing board scheduled to meet Jan. 8

North Catasauqua Borough Zoning Hearing Board has a meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 8. This is a special exception hearing and a request for a variance at the property located at 1019 Howertown Road. The intended improvement will propose an accessory apartment. Zoning board hearings are held at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St.

The meeting is open to the public.

St. John Fisher Roman Catholic Church, 1229 Third St., is having a sandwich sale, made by Kornfeind’s Market in Egypt. Orders are due by Jan. 9.

The choices are roast beef, ham and turkey. All sandwiches are on Kaiser rolls and come with white American cheese and a packet of mustard or mayonnaise.

There is a cost.

Order forms are located at the church, or call the church office at 610-264-1972 to order. Pickup will be 4-6 p.m. Jan. 21 in the lower-level church hall.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua, 210 Pine St., will hold its monthly food drive 10 a.m.-noon Jan. 9 in the church parking lot. Drive through to donate your items.

Nonperishable food items will be accepted to benefit Catasauqua Community Food Bank.

The Dery Mansion, 520 Fifth St., Catasauqua, invites you to a historical tour 2-3 p.m. Jan. 10. Explore the magic of the season and uncover fascinating stories from the mansion’s past, from its silk-era grandeur to the secrets of the Prohibition years.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua’s next free community lunch will be held 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Jan. 12. The lunch is for community members with food insecurity or those who could use a helping hand.

The church is also accepting donations for the Roughie Pantry. The pantry is set up to “love our school-aged neighbors.” The pantry is currently accepting shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, body wash, tampons, sanitary napkins, etc. Collection bins are located at the church entrances.

The Catasauqua and North Catasauqua J4 Committee is looking for new members and volunteers to help organize the community celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary, which will occur in 2026. The next meeting is 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at borough hall.

There is a cost for each bag with a reduced cost for multiple bags. You may also sponsor a bag for a shut-in at a reduced cost.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, will be holding its Warm Up Wednesday gatherings 4-6 p.m. each Wednesday. This is a free soup night, and everyone in the Catasauqua area is welcome. This is a way for the community to get together sharing a friendly a meal and word and is a nontraditional worship gather experience.

Catasauqua Garden Club is welcoming new members. Meetings take place 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month beginning in April at Slovak Center Social Club, 1223 Fifth St., North Catasauqua.

North Catasauqua Police Department would like residents to be aware of a fraud alert. Do not send any money to anyone who calls to inform you that you have an arrest warrant. The callers may state they are from the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office or that you have an arrest warrant for failing to appear for jury duty or grand jury.

If you receive a phone call from anyone demanding payment or threatening to place you under arrest, call 610-437-5252 and inform the Lehigh County Communications Center.

Consider donating to Catasauqua Community Food Bank, 527 Front St. The food bank is in need of pasta, cereal, soup, rice, stuffing, instant potatoes, granola bars and peanut butter crackers.

Donations may be dropped off during open hours: 3-4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Monetary donations are also accepted. Any donations or checks to the food bank must be written to Catasauqua Community Partnership or CCPI due to banking regulations.

The North Catasauqua Charotin Hose Fire Company reported the department went on 178 calls during 2025.

With winter weather here, the department reminds residents to remove snow and ice from fire hydrants at least 5 feet in all directions. In case of fire, firefighters need to be able to get to the hydrants quickly to protect residents and property.

Parishioners and visitors of St. John Fisher Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church should be aware of new safety procedures going into effect. The entrance doors to the church will be locked after Mass begins for the safety and security of all those in attendance.

At St. Mary’s Church, only the Union Street door and the ramp door will be the only unlocked doors before the start of Mass. The Second Street doors will be locked at all times.

Plan accordingly to be sure you are in church before Mass begins.

Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St., is a great spot to find a bargain on unique items. The shop is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The thrift shop is happy to accept donations of good, used, clean clothing and household items and toys during regular store hours. Proceeds are returned to the community through contributions that support youth and adult programs and services.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church is seeking donations for the church food pantry. Items that are especially in need include individual nonperishable meals such as Dinty Moore, cups of soup, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, individual servings of fruit that don’t need refrigeration, fruit boxes and men’s and women’s personal care items such as toilet paper, shampoo, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant.

Items may be placed on the offering table at the back of sanctuary.

Consider purchasing a Hometown Heroes banner to honor anyone who served in the military. A photo of the individual to be put on the banner will be needed with the name of the individual on the back of the photo. The banners will be installed and hung on various streets in the borough.

During the past holiday season, members of North Catasauqua Police Department visited the Cancer Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg and donated $1,000 in gift cards to the cancer center for cancer patients within the Lehigh Valley. The gift cards were given to patients in need to make the holiday season a little easier for them and their families.

The funds for the gift cards were donated by North Catasauqua Police Association. The North Catasauqua Recreation and Betterment committees also contributed funds toward the special cause.
