BC opens 2026 with win over NDGP

Bethlehem Catholic trudged through a rugged month of December full of the best national tournaments and the toughest dual meets they’ll face in the regular season.

Now, they come out of that tunnel and enter the new year with a lighter schedule, but with the focus towards improving and winning another PIAA state championship.

The Hawks (3-1) passed another dual meet test over the weekend with a 37-27 victory over Notre Dame on the road.

It was the fifth straight win in the series for the Hawks and one that got a momentum bump after Nico Emili (121) flipped a 10-0 deficit into a fall over Cole Schwartz in 3:38 to give the Hawks a shot in the arm.

AJ Gomez followed with a fall at 127 to push Beca ahead 12-9 and the Hawks never looked back.

Jack Cole (133), Andre Cerrato (139) and Keanu Dillard (152) recorded pins in the win and Mason Thomas (172) majored Cole Retos 13-3 to give the Hawks enough of a cushion to erase any doubt of a victory.

Connor Gillahan (HWT) closed out the match with a 2-1 decision over Noah Knorp.

Prior to the dual against the Crusaders, the only other action Beca endured their the holiday break was their Tony Iasiello Christmas City Tournament where they finished second in the team standings to Xavier (CT), losing the team race 195 to 192.5.
