Trojans hand Kids first loss

The Parkland High School boys basketball team was victorious in both of its Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games last week, but dropped a nonconference to conclude the week.

In their first game of the week, the Trojans took down previously unbeaten Northampton 42-37 last Tuesday, Dec. 16. They defeated Emmaus 64-41 on Saturday before traveling to Philadelphia for a nonconference game against Saint Joseph’s Prep the next day and lost 58-47.

In the win against the Kids, the first two quarters were back and forth as both teams held leads. The Trojans led 14-13 after the first quarter, but Northampton rallied and took a 21-20 lead at halftime.

The tides turned in favor of Parkland, however, in the third quarter where they outscored the Kids 12-3 to go on top 32-24 heading into the fourth. Blake Nassry led all scorers with 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Both Nassim Adams and Jude Ruisch finished with nine points, with all of Ruisch’s coming from long distance. Javian Porter had five points and Tyler Beck rounded out the scoring with four points.

In the victory over the Green Hornets, Emmaus was able to hang around in the first half as they trailed by just six after the first quarter and eight at halftime.

The second half was a different story, however, as Parkland doubled them up 34-17 to secure the win.

Beck led the way with 12 points, while Nassry scored 11 and Adams netted 10. Marcus Temchatin totaled eight points, while Ruisch added six and Zeke Gordner contributed five points.

Parkland, which improved to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference, will play two games in the Widener University holiday tournament this weekend.

The Trojans will first take on Penncrest on Saturday before playing Archbishop Carroll on Sunday.
