Trojan boys basketball team bounces back from early loss

Since dropping its season opener to Allen back on the first of December, the Parkland High School boys basketball team won four games in a row, including two Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games last week.

Last Tuesday, Dec. 9, Parkland held on for a victory in its home opener against Whitehall, 53-52. Three nights later, the Trojans took down Pocono Mountain West 57-47.

In the win over the Zephyrs, Parkland began fast, jumping out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter, but Whitehall rallied and outscored the Trojans 19-10 to take a 28-26 lead into halftime. Parkland came out of the locker room and responded and quickly took back the lead, outscoring Whitehall 16-12 in the third to hold a 42-40 advantage heading to the fourth.

The Trojans held on to the one-point lead in the end. Blake Nassry and Javian Porter led the team in scoring with game-highs of 16 points. Jude Rusich also finished in double figures in scoring with 12 points, all coming from three-point range. Nassim Adams totaled seven points.

The Trojans jumped out in front early with a 17-4 first quarter and led 27-19 at intermission.

Parkland continued its surge in the third quarter and climbed back on top by double figures, leading 42-29 after three. Nassry finished with a team-best 19 points. Each of Adams and Porter netted 11 points. Ruisch contributed six points and Tyler Beck added five points.

Parkland, which enters this week at 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference, had two EPC games this week against Northampton Tuesday and Emmaus on Saturday afternoon.
