Several Northwestern Lehigh boys basketball players had just a couple of days rest between finishing their football season and hitting the court with their teammates.
With the Tiger football playing into December the past three seasons, delayed starts to the basketball have become routine. Both the players and coaches were prepared for what it would take to get ready for some basketball and it showed in the team’s firs two games of the season.
Northwestern scored 126 points in its two wins while allowing just 103 points.
In their opening win at Southern Lehigh, the Tigers had three players score in double figures with seniors Cannon Fitch and Malachi Coleman both scoring 16 points. Fitch hit four three-pointers in the game. Junior Brady Krimmel finished with 10 points in the 61-56 win against the Spartans.
Two days later, Northwestern played its home opener against Catasauqua and won 65-47 for its second win against an unbeaten team. The Spartans were 3-0 and the Rough Riders were 1-0 before meeting up with the Tigers.
Against the Roughies, senior Mason Bollinger led the team in scoring with 19 points. Krimmel had 11 points.
The Tigers have hit a total of 11 three-pointers in just two games with Fitch leading the way with five of those buckets from beyond the arc.
Coming into this week, Northwestern has a stretch of five games in 10 days leading up to the Christmas break.
