Swimmers fall short

The Northampton High School varsity swim and dive team welcomed Parkland High School for a home meet on Tuesday, Dec. 23. though the meet ended in a loss for both the girls’ and the boys’ teams, there are still some individual highlights to celebrate, particularly for the boys’ team.

Among the notable performances for the evening, junior Northampton swimmer Josiah Hippert scored a pair of first-place finishes in the boys 50 freestyle and boys 100 backstroke events. Hippert’s 57.35 finish in the 100 backstroke was also a district championship qualifying time. Northampton sophomore Henry Schoeneberger also cinched a district champs qualifying time with this first-place performance in the boys 200 freestyle event.

In other highlights, Northampton’s Logan Saylor, Nate Scheirer, and Tobias Scott placed second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the boys 200 individual medley, earning Northampton 9 points for that event to Parkland’s 7. Scott also placed second in the boys 100 butterfly event while Joseph Kennedy took second in the boys 100 freestyle event and Schoeneberger placed second in the boys 500 freestyle event with junior Logan Saylor close behind in third place. In the final event of the evening, the Northampton boys 400 freestyle relay team of Hippert, Schoeneberger, Saylor, and Scott had a strong swim, also coming in second.

This first loss of the season for the Northampton boys swim and dive Team puts their record at 3-1. Joseph Kennedy took second in the boys 100 freestyle event, and Schoeneberger placed second in the boys yard freestyle event.

Looking ahead, the team is anxiously awaiting their next meet, traveling to local rival Whitehall High School on Tuesday, Jan. 6, for a 4 p.m. meet.
