SHS grapplers seek D-11 berth

Salisbury wrestling head coach Rob Fiedler and the Falcons have high goals for the 2025-26 season.

The team is looking to qualify for the District 11 team tournament.

The main reason for the optimism surrounds the returning talent for Salisbury this winter.

Led by a district runner-up from last season in Jarrod Blunt, Fielder and the Falcons have the bar set for something historic.

“Our primary goal is to qualify for district duals, something our program has never done,” Fiedler said. “With most of our lineup returning and key newcomers added, we feel we can win more duals and elevate our team consistency.

“Individually, several wrestlers are poised for strong postseason runs. But we’re emphasizing team success, team identity and competing hard in every match.”

Blunt, a sophomore, leads a talented returning group after he went 31-12 last winter and was the District 11 Class 2A runner-up at 127 pounds. He came up short to Saucon Valley’s Matthew Santoro via a 9-3 decision. He’s expected to suit up in most matches at 133 pounds.

“Jarrod Blunt had a strong offseason, and is aiming to win a district title and make deeper postseason runs,” Fiedler said. “He was dealing with a knee injury during regionals last year that limited his performance.”

Blunt isn’t the only returning wrestler with high expectations this winter, especially in the middle weight classes. Sophomore Jacob Spinner (23-14) and senior Jordan Tocci-Watcher (25-14) are both 20-plus winners last season and will be key cogs in the lineup. Spinner is expected to suit up at 121 or 127 pounds, while Tocci-Watcher will see time at 145 and 152 pounds.

Junior Michael Segata went 17-15 last year and will be plugged in at 160, while Sam Krauss (16-13) at heavyweight returns as the leading returners for the Falcons. Krauss is the only senior on the Falcons’ roster.

“Our biggest strength is in the middle weights, where we return three 20-plus match winners in Jordan Tocci, Jarrod Blunt, and Jacob Spinner, all of whom trained hard this offseason and provide a strong, reliable core,” Fiedler said. “Sam Krauss at heavyweight is a hammer who finishes matches for us with a bang, giving us a strong closer capable of securing bonus points and momentum. He defeated multiple regional-placers and qualifiers last year.”

The Falcons will need to replace Nathan Tone, who has graduated and is now wrestling at the Merchant Marine Academy. As a fifth-place finisher at districts last year at 145 pounds, Tone went 29-17 last winter.

Looking to add some depth to the roster are a trio of newcomers, led by junior Jimmy Cadesca and sophomore Camdyn Womer, who will split time at 114 and 120 pounds. Junior Jefferson Loor Vasquez will see time at the higher weight classes, in particular at 215.

“Our biggest area of development will be working with our three new wrestlers and navigating the challenge of missing three weight classes,” Fiedler said. “Jimmy and Camdyn have wrestling backgrounds, but Camdyn hasn’t competed in a few years and Jimmy is still gaining varsity mat time. Jefferson has a jujitsu background and has been learning quick.”

District duals is certainly a goal for the Falcons as a team. But there are certainly a few in the bunch that have their eyes set on reaching higher levels individually, some potentially at the Giant Center in Hershey for the state tournament.

“This is a motivated, close-knit group with strong senior leadership,” Fiedler said. “Our team mantra this year is, ‘We Are Here.’ We want to make noise both individually and as a team, compete at a high level in every match, and continue building something special at Salisbury. With the combination of returning experience, new talent and senior leadership, this team has the potential to surprise people.”

The Falcons will get their first opportunity to surprise people with Wednesday’s match at Wilson. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
