Salisbury wrestlers fall to PA, beat Jim Thorpe
The Salisbury wrestling team continues to put together a solid season.
Last week, the Falcons (4-6 overall; 2-2 in Colonial League) split their two conference meetings against Pen Argyl and Jim Thorpe to stay at .500 in league competition.
Pen Argyl benefited from four Salisbury forfeits to secure a 45-26 win last Thursday. Besides that, the Falcons competed well in the match and actually won five of the nine contested bouts on their home mat, including three by fall.
Sam Krauss improved to 8-1 on the season and added another pin to his record. Krauss took down Noah Murcelo in 1:07 at 285 pounds to secure the final six points for Salisbury. Jordan Tocci-Wachter and Michael Segata also secured falls in back-to-back matches at 160 and 172 pounds, respectively. Tocci-Wachter pinned Luca Albanese in 2:20, while Segata was able to secure a first-round pin in 1:05.
Jarrod Blunt (133 pounds) won via technical fall for Salisbury, securing a 17-2 victory in 3:01 over Blayke Lacey. Jacob Watson rounded out Salisbury’s scoring at 189 pounds with an 8-3 decision over Zachary Metzgar.
Salisbury got back in the win column two days later with a 42-36 victory over Jim Thorpe. Despite losing 18 points to forfeits, the Falcons won six of the nine contested bouts to secure the win, all of which came via fall.
Camdyn Womer (121), Jacob Spinner (127) and Blunt (133) secured three consecutive wins to erase an early 12-0 Salisbury deficit and lead 18-12. It took Womer nearly all of the three periods for him to get his fall, but he eventually did by pinning Aiden Bowman in 5:49. After a forfeit win by Spinner in the next bout, Blunt pinned Ryan Broadbent in 49 seconds to cap the 18-0 spurt.
Tocci-Wachter pinned Demetri Llewellyn in 36 seconds at 152 pounds after two Olympians secured forfeit wins to tie the match back at 24-24. After another Olympian win—a pin at 160 pounds—Salisbury would win three of the final four bouts to secure the victory.
Colton Tone wasted little time in pinning his opponent, Donovan Llewellyn, in 50 seconds at 172 pounds, while Watson took down Phineas Benyo in 3:08 at 189 pounds.
Krauss picked up his ninth win of the season and broke a 36-36 tie in the final bout. It took some time, but Krauss pinned Michael McGinly late in the second period to push Salisbury back in the win column.
Salisbury will be off until this weekend’s MyHouse Trojan Wars Tournament at Chambersburg High School. The tournament is slated to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.
